Telecom equipment vendor Ericsson has reputedly launched its new wind-powered base site solution under a research project for wind-energy based Tower Tube. The vendor is working with Sweden-based Uppsala University and Vertical Wind AB to develop this concept as part of its strategy to provide cost-efficient communications solutions. Tower Tube makes prudent use of renewable energy and utilizes wind energy through a four-based turbine with 5-meter blades that are vertically attached with the tower. The vertical blades are supposed to alleviate the load on the tower during its functioning. Ericsson plans to carry out trials to gauge the feasibility and cost effectiveness of its Tower Tube concept.
